This took place in the car just after Christmas.
Me: I've been thinking about this, and I think that "A Knight's Tale" and "Shrek" have to take place in the same universe.
Irish: What?!
Me: "A Knight's Tale" and "Shrek" have to take place in the same universe; they just feel too similar not to.
Irish: *resounding silence*
A few moments later -
Me: Also, I figure that in some alternate universe, somewhere, every character that a particular actor plays all exist at the same time. So somewhere, the guy from "A Knight's Tale" and Enis from "Brokeback Mountain" and the Joker are having some bizarro conversation.
Irish: I don't want to think about it! I just want to watch the movies and enjoy them, not analyze them afterward. I have enough trouble dealing with relationships in real life, let alone trying to figure this shit out.
***
A couple hours later I repeated the conversation at dinner for the benefit of my best friend and her sister. While we were discussing whether or not "Shrek" and "A Knight's Tale" do, indeed, take place in the same universe, Irish added, "and besides, the way your mind works, you probably want those two to get together!" (That, by the way, was the only sentence in the whole conversation that caught the attention of the two 14-year-old girls eating with us.) I assured him that I really don't think Shrek and what's-his-name belong together - personally, I'll always think what's-his-name should've married the Irish armorer (the armorer's widow that took over her husband's business). What he saw in that nasty-tongued English tart I'll never know! ("If you really love me, you must lose. No, now that you're beaten to a bloody pulp, prove you love me by winning." What is that!?)
