The live edition, not the tv show. There are two school districts in my town. The high school in town, where I attended, and the other one, out in what used to be farm country, have always been arch-rivals, especially in football. More than once, each team has been undefeated in the regular season until the played each other. Sadly for the Mishawaka Cavemen (yes, our high school mascot is a caveman), Penn usually won.

Back in 1980, though, when I entered my senior year in high school, Mishawaka won the Mishawaka-Penn game We ended that season undefeated; they lost only once :-) Mishawaka didn't beat Penn again until this year - we beat them last month during the regular season. It was huge deal - while both teams had been undefeated this season, Penn had actually won 153 regular season football games in a row. That's 27 years without a loss. I could hear car horns honking as people drove by for an hour afterward and people were talking about it at work the following Monday.

The regular season is over and both teams went to the sectional championships. Tonight they had to play each other again - we beat them again, 24 to 21. We beat 'em by a field goal! After 29 years of losing to our arch-rival we beat them twice in a month's time. I might have to sing the fight song.

Oh why not!

Silliness. )

Can you believe I never forgot that? And this from someone who's never gone to a reunion, doesn't care to go to any in the future, and hasn't stayed in touch with many people from school. I always enjoyed the football games, though, and I still like to see the team do well. I almost wish I'd been there to watch it!
