Thanks to
lauramcewan for this cool meme (with the understanding that I don't have a whole lot of music ripped or downloaded yet...).
The "Be Pete Wentz" Poetry Meme
01. Put your music player on shuffle
02. The first lines of twenty songs = a poem; the first line of the twenty-first song is the title
Like a Bird on a Wire
Jesus, help me find my proper place
I will be walking one day on a street far away
If these old walls - if these old walls could speak
There's a storm across the valley and clouds are rolling in
Almost heaven, west Virginia
If I could make a wish, I think I'd pass
My baby don't mess around
You can hear the music on the am radio
I've been walking these streets so long
Southern nights, have you ever felt a southern night?
Side by side we stand like brothers
If the house is rockin' don't bother knockin'
When I am down and oh my soul so weary
I've been a wild rover for many's a year
All these years seem to be rolling by
I really can't stay
You can't see the morning but I can see the light
They got the mustard out
Walking by the roadside I see my fate written upon it
My love said to me my mother won't mind
(Title and artist, not necessarily writer.)
"Jesus" - Glenn Campbell

"Take Me Home, Country Roads" - John Denver
"The Air That I Breathe" - k.d. lang
"Hey Ya" - OutKast
"AM Radio" - Everclear
"Rhinestone Cowboy" - Glenn Campbell
"Southern Nights" - Glenn Campbell
"Ireland's Call" - Celtic Thunder
"The House is Rockin" - The Shuffle Kings
"You Raise Me Up" - Celtic Woman
"The Wild Rover" - The High Kings
"His Name was David Soul" - Pete Martin
"Baby It's Cold Outside" - Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalban
"Let It Ride" - Bachman Turner Overdrive
"They Got the Mustard Out" - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Once More with Feeling soundtrack (I forget who sang it - one of the producers?)
"No Regrets" - Tom Cochrane
"She Moved Through the Fair" (I don't know who sings the version I have)
Title: "Bird on a Wire" - k.d. lang (I know Leonard Cohen wrote it, but I love her version - and David Soul's, for that matter. And the Neville Brothers.)
That was - odd. And fun. I think I'll pull this one out of mothballs when I get more music downloaded or ripped from cds (and hope it shuffles better, too).
