Just a Little Pirate Drabble

I committed to writing 100 words a day at mininanowrimo - so far, so good! I started with a piratey drabble, since Wednesdays are usually drabble prompt days at Black Pearl Sails.

Two things tempted him and both, he knew, would lead him to hell. The first - a single shot, used wisely - was faster, perhaps even more honorable. What did honor matter now?

He chose the more circuitous route - drink. Strong drink, vile, even. Demon rum, the devil within. It led him to the devil without, in Tortuga.

When he woke, sober at last, it was in hell, face down in pig slop and agreeing to serve a pirate commander. At least it was a hell of his own choosing, a temporary Hades, perhaps, one he might have a chance of escaping.

Yep, born in Michigan, raised there till I was 13, then moved to northern Indiana (that is, seven miles from the Michigan state line). I didn't move out of the Great Lakes area till I was 22 and that was only for four years. This time I've been away for six and will probably be heading back in about six months.

This quiz does make me wonder, though, if we're the only ones who differentiate between various vowel sounds!
