When I grow up, I want to write this well.
When All is Said and Done is the sequel to After the Dust Has Cleared, with Que Quieres en la Vida the last of the trilogy. (Both are at fanfiction.net)
Since I haven't seen Once Upon a Time in Mexico yet, I can't judge how true to the film the characters are, however, I can say that her characters are very well done. They're consistent throughout the stories and the changes they undergo make sense. The plotting is solid. Like the first one, these are stories I can read without being aware that I'm reading them. I printed them out so I could read them at home and now I don't want to get rid of the printouts or use the backs for anything else. Long time since that's happened!
Que Quieres en la Vida is, by the way, slash. It's R-rated slash, meaning not laden with graphic details, and the relationship is well-written and believable (at least in the context of the trilogy; as I said, I can't comment on the movie).
Sometimes I think I write well, then I read something like this and realize that, well, I write. I don't know that I'd ever be able to write like this.
I may never find out because I'm a lazy writer and I know it. Usually I'm content to be a lazy writer and throw out a short-short or a vignette once in awhile, but when I read stuff like this I begin to think about actually putting some effort into it.
