- and Irish and I are sitting in our underwear (sorry for the mental picture, folks) with a fan on, a couple of vents closed, and windows cracked. Our downstairs neighbors have control of the thermostat and have the heat cranked so high I don't see how they can breathe. Except, of course, that heat rises. Believe me, it is rising! I hope they turn it back down a little tomorrow. (Irish said something about them having it up to thaw their pipes. If their pipes froze, they're lucky not to be flooded. I wonder why they didn't just keep a stream of water running?)
-6, by the way, is temperate compared with this morning, which was in the negative double digits, with a wind chill factor of around -37. Schools were closed, I saw very few cars out, and I never made it to work. The car wouldn't start, though it did back at Christmas, or whatever week it was that was so cold. Of course, those temps only got into the -20s with the wind chill. We tried several times during the day but no go. Naturally everyone else but one person managed to make it! I'd bet the majority of them have some sort of covered parking, though. Our poor thing sits uncovered on the street freezing its . . . engine . . . off. Or maybe it just wishes it were snowbirding somewhere!
