Nice for me because I can do some catching up on e-mail, mailing lists, live journal....
November 1st in Las Vegas - this morning it was 52 degrees (F) outside with clear blue skies, lots of sun, and a good wind. Pleasant weather to walk in. I miss "real fall", but this'll do - it really is a pretty day today.
We had Friday off work for Nevada Day and I took home lots of fic to read. A lot of it I found only so-so, but I didn't dislike any of it and I especially enjoyed History in a Sweater by Rivanna Michaels. The author noticed something in Starsky & Hutch that I definitely didn't - that is, that the guys seem to pass the same burnt orange sweater back and forth. Whose is it, really? (And how often do they share clothing - obviously I need to pay closer attention!) "History in a Sweater" is well-written and while it's ostensibly about the sweater, it's really about the partnership, how it began, how it developed. Lots of love without any mush. Actually, my only complaint about the story - if you can even call it a complaint - is that it kept feeling like pre-slash, but it stayed gen, which was a tad frustrating. Not enough to sap my ejoyment of the story and I'd certainly recommend it.
That pre-slash/why won't it become slash? feeling is something I get every time I read Starsky & Hutch genfic. I suspect it's because even anti-slashers see slash in that show on a subconscious level and can't help inserting it into what they write even though that's not their intention. I could be completely off base though.
I toyed with signing up for NaNoWriMo this year but didn't, mostly because I - hmmm, I guess I don't really know why. When I closed the NaNoWriMo page on Thursday, telling myself "no not this year", it seemed like a good idea. Right now, it just sort of seems like procrastination. Then again, it may be the fact that I haven't written so much as a drabble since July that put me off.
Must write PotC Hallowe'en drabble before Wednesday....
