A short one this morning; another old Child Craft favorite from when I was a kid - another poem by Vachel Lindsay. (I think people are most familiar with his "General William Booth Enters Into Heaven" - "Booth led boldy with his big bass drum - " or "The Congo".)

***

"The Moon's the North Wind's Cookie (What the Little Girl Said)"

The Moon's the North Wind's Cookie
He bites it, day by day
Until there's but a rim of scraps
That crumble all away.

The South Wind is the baker
He kneads clouds in his den,
And bakes a crisp new moon that . . .
Greedy . . . North . . . Wind . . . eats . . . again!

Also, if you go to this link http://www.angelfire.com/wi3/englishcorner/reading/poetry/cookie.html you can find a link that lets you listen to Vachel Lindsay reading this poem. Very cool.
