I've always been interested in polar exploration and recently my interest has taken another upswing, so I've been reading things online. I got tired of googling both "arctic exploration" and "antarctic exploration" and got to thinking there must be an encompassing term for both ends of the earth. So I open google again and begin to type "encompassing term for polar explor -" Oh. Duh. And it's not as if I've never heard or read or even used the term "polar exploration" before! I've often said it's a good thing I don't mind laughing at myself occasionally....

Hmm. I think I need to go hunting for a Shackleton icon. (I'll always be indebted to [livejournal.com profile] killabeez for telling me about him. He wasn't in my social studies books with Scott, Peary, Byrd, Amundsen, and Henson way back when.)
