I've been on Facebook for 30 minutes this morning. A distant cousin has shared a bogus list of covid "facts", telling those of us who listen to medical professionals to wake up and stop being sheep. A friend who's smart enough to know better has shared a meme stating she won't get vaccinated for covid or chipped by the government - and Irish liked it. A well-educated and intelligent friend stated that she needs to keep reminding herself that muscle weighs more than fat. (It does not. 16 ounces of muscle is a pound of muscle and 16 ounces of fat is a pound of fat. Muscle is denser than fat, therefore takes up less room. Someone who is 150 pounds with a low percentage of fat will look smaller than someone who is 150 pounds with a higher fat percentage. They still weigh the same. I know that even people who know that still say that muscle weighs more than fat. It still annoys me every single time.) The stupid is thick this morning and I don't think I can deal with it. It's easy enough for me to unfollow my cousin (she's a first cousin of my mom's I believe, though probably closer to my age than hers) but I don't want to unfollow the 2 friends. I have definitely unfollowed or blocked several people since March.

My dad's family used to have a myfamily.com website (dad set it up, then one of my cousins kept it going after dad died and some of us chipped in for the annual payments) but eventually most of the cousins chose to not renew the site since most of us were on Facebook - I was outvoted! - and the next year myfamily.com shut down anyway. I wish we still had that site. I would pay the annual fee myself if myfamily.com still existed. (I think I offered before but no longer remember why that didn't happen and since the company's gone, it wouldn't have mattered.)

(ETA - the post from mom's cousin is especially annoying because she's a nurse. She's a nurse and she's spreading disinformation about covid! She also has, if I recall correctly, a husband with high-risk health issues. And my friend who posted about not getting vaccinated for covid is high risk, is on a kidney transplant list, and spent years working in a field which requires vaccines, so she knows how important they are. I truly do not believe that the U.S. government is going to hide microchips in each dose of vaccine and slip them to us on the sly. I don't know why she does. I know why Irish does - a lot of Vietnam combat vets have a level of paranoia and, sadly, it's justified. But I think he's wrong on this one.)
