I snagged this from [livejournal.com profile] debris4spike. Play along if you'd like!

HOLIDAY QUESTIONS:
* Favorite pie: Pumpkin. Actually it's butterscotch but that's getting harder and harder to find.
* Christmas song: Silver Bells and Away in a Manger (the other tune, not the Flow Gently Sweet Afton one)
* Thanksgiving side dish: Homemade butterhorn rolls
* Pepsi or Coke: Coke (Diet Coke these days)
* Christmas movie: I guess I don't have one - but I love all those old Rankin/Bass specials, like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and The Little Drummer Boy.
* Christmas cookie: My favorite cookie at any time, including Christmas, is Elevator Lady Spice Cookies*.
* Netflix or Hulu: I have both.
* Favorite Reindeer: Rudolph
* Favorite Holiday: Christmas
* Turkey or Ham: Ham
* Real tree or Artificial: Prefer real but have artificial.
* Favorite color: Blue
* Snow or Sand: Sand, if you mean the beach, but I love that year round, so snow on sand even.
* Early morning person: Only if I've stayed up all night.
* Eggnog or Cider: Depends on the season - cider in fall but egg nog at New Years.
* Smooth or crunchy peanut butter: Either. Both!
* Waffles or pancakes: Depends on my mood - I like them both.
* Tree up before or after Turkey day: After.
* Clark Griswold or Buddy the Elf: Neither! But if I had to watch one, I'd prefer Clark because Buddy the Elf is more annoying than the entire Griswold family.

*Elevator Lady Spice cookies are a recipe in the I Hate to Cook Book by Peg Bracken. She calls them this because, she says, she was in an elevator one day eating some spice cookies made from a new recipe and gave one the the elevator lady. The elevator lady said she could make a better cookie than that and next time Peg Bracken saw her, the elevator lady gave her a spice cookie recipe. They're so good! Here it is:

Mix together 3/4 C shortening, 1 C sugar, 1 egg (unbeaten), and 1/4 C molasses.
Sift together and stir in 1 C flour, 2 t baking soda, 1/4 t salt, 1 t cinnamon, 3/4 t powdered cloves, 3/4 t powdered ginger.
Mix together, form into walnut-sized balls, and place 2" apart on a greased baking sheet.
Bake at 375 (F) for 10-12 minutes.

I don't know why she specifies an unbeaten egg but she does.

[livejournal.com profile] gillo, in a reply to a comment I made earlier, said she's never tasted or even seen green bean casserole or sweet potato casserole with marshmallows. Lucky her! But just in case anyone who isn't familiar with them is curious about them, take a look (er, follow the links):

Green Bean Casserole:

https://www.campbells.com/recipes/green-bean-casserole/

I find everything about it - the look of it once you dish it out, the smell, the taste, the texture - absolutely revolting (hence the title to this post!). Of course some people, such as my youngest sister, love it. I really think this is one of those dishes that people love or hate, no take-it-or-leave it here.

Sweet Potato Casserole with Marshmallows:

I love roasted marshmallows (I pretty much like marshmallows any way you serve them including straight out of the bag) but really dislike this casserole. I'll pick a few marshmallows off the top when no one's looking. Ironically, the reason I don't like the casserole is because I find sweet potatoes too sweet. Sweet potatoes, yams, squash, cooked carrots - pretty much all those orange vegetables I find way too sweet and do not like them at all. (Except in pie - both pumpkin and sweet potato pie are delicious.) I certainly like sweet things so I don't know what it is about those vegetables but they almost make me gag. Weird.
