First of all, it is way too early in the year for it to be this hot. This is ridiculous! What happened to spring this year? We never got spring! Spring is my favorite season and it didn't happen. Summer is my least favorite season and it's not summer yet but it's so hot I think we're going to have my uncle put in the window a/c units. (We were going to wait til it was actually, you know, summer.)

So yesterday was too hot to actually do anything and I had turned in my assignment late Sunday evening, so even though I had plenty of work around the house to do - I didn't. In fact, the most strenuous thing I did was drive to Dairy Queen for supper because Irish had a bad toothache and didn't want to cook, so he had a large chocolate shake for supper instead. (Double cheeseburger sans bun, cheese curds, and Hawaiian mini blizzard for me.) The rest of the day, I watched Doctor Who eps.

(Some fannish rambling behind the cut.)

So now I've seen all of Series 1 and I really like Rose. I like Amy a little better, but I definitely like Rose. (Although her Tammy Fay mascara is really distracting in the close-ups. Can't they find a few bucks in the budget for some non-clumping mascara and an eyelash comb? Or does Rose really think they look good that way? Whatever, it's not a major distraction - not enough to keep me from loving the show, just enough to notice a lot.) I like the Ninth Doctor too. He reminds me, very vaguely, of my sister's boyfriend (that's a good thing!). It's been interesting to see how his personality seems to change somewhat with the different incarnations I've seen (9, 10, 11 - I've also seen a handful of - is it Tom Baker, with the scarf? - eps about 20 years ago but don't remember much about them), though he's still clearly the same person.

And Captain Jack! Captain Jack Harkness showed up! Also, the setup for the Torchwood spinoff. Now I'm going to have to go back and watch Torchwood again. I haven't seen all of it, probably about half. I did see the ep (was there more than one?) with James Marsters. Liked that one!

So this evening I watched "School Reunion" (early Series 2) and Sarah Jane was in it. This was a treat, because I'd never seen an ep that she was in before. She voiced a lot of thoughts that have been running through my head as I've been watching, about the Doctor introducing his companions to all these wonderful, beautiful, dangerous, scary, exciting, marvelous things and then leaving them at some point to keep going with another, younger, companion while the old one had to deal with things like bills and traffic jams and boring jobs - Chekhov's "day-to-day living," that stuff that wears you out. It's one of those things that, even though I understand the reasoning behind it (and the Doctor explained it so well in this episode) it's still a little disturbing. I also think Sarah Jane is right, though, when she says some things are worth having your heart broken. I loved the scene where Rose and Sarah Jane were talking about the Doctor and he walked in and they just kept laughing. I think I've had that conversation once or twice in the past! I also loved that Sarah Jane told Rose to look her up, but it made me sad as well, knowing that there won't be anymore Sarah Jane. (And that sadness is due completely to one episode together with all the things my flist said when Elisabeth Sladen died. There was a lot of fannish devotion in those posts.)

Up next - "The Girl in the Fireplace". I've actually seen chunks of that one when it first aired. I don't remember all of it and I keep thinking Madame Pompadour was in it. I guess I'll know shortly!

(Why yes, I am watching a lot of tv lately. I only have one class this summer and it's a full-term class, not accelerated like last summer, so I have some extra free time. Plus I'm also being pimped into Blood Ties and White Collar, and I found Faerie Tale Theatre on Hulu Prime and I've added Odyssey 5 and Fringe to my Netflix list - watching tv's sort of like my part-time summer job. *g*)
